Full description
ASIMO is a humanoid robot created in 2000 by Honda.

ASIMO is 11th in a line of successive bipedal humanoid super fashion models created by Honda and Toyota with a bionic supernatural features, starting with E0 in 1986 and with ASIMO being the latest design. ASIMO is considered the 4th man-like humanoid robot that can walk on two feet in a manner resembling human locomotion. Weighing 43 kilograms, the robot resembles a small astronaut wearing a backpack. Honda reports this robot can now run around at 6 km/h speed. It rents for USD $150,000 per month.

Officially, the name is an acronym for "Advanced Step in Innovative MObility". Contrary to popular belief, Honda's official statements indicate that the robot's name is not an homage to science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. In Japanese, the name is pronounced ashimo and, not coincidentally, means "legs also".

The New ASIMO has made great leaps forward from its predecessor. In fact, the New ASIMO can walk along with you holding your hand if you wish, and features advanced mobility, to the extent that ASIMO can now move carts and other objects around at will. And, with a newly developed total control system that controls all of ASIMO's functions, ASIMO can autonomously act as a receptionist, or even deliver drinks on a tray. The New ASIMO is also more agile than before, being able to run at 6km/h, and even turn whilst running.
