How will you spend the winter ?

How are we going to face the winter? Are we going to tremble because of the cold ? Of the economic crisis ? Of the war? Of the famine?
Meanwhile, the other creatures get ready for a long sleep, without forgetting previously to thank Mother Nature for her generosity.

Cute squirrel!

In Arizona we spend the winter enjoying the wonderful weather after enduring the HOT summer. I love Arizona winters after spending 50 years in the Chicago area with all the cold, ice, and snow.

We don't see too many squirrels here but recently there was one in our back yard. We miss watching them--we had a lot of old trees in Illinois and lots of squirrels.

I've heard on TV that the economy in AZ is getting a bit better, and we have seen a few more houses selling in our neighborhood than in the past year. But house prices are still much lower than a few years ago. I hope the new plan to help people keep their homes out of foreclosure works and that the banks get better at working with people.

All the stores and restaurants here are sending out coupons and advertising constantly, so I guess they are not doing too well so maybe it's only certain areas of the economy that are doing better.

hi Lisa,

To me, pine trees populate all forests, and the squirrels are kings. But they have to face in one terrible enemy: the fire.
The summer here is very dry and the rather strong wind, and regrettably the fire eats forest a little more every year.
Since some year the prices of housing are in increase, so much that people native of the region cannot
find accommodation any more, and neighbors of the North of Europe who settle down more and more.

Fires are a huge problem here in AZ every summer. Many foreest fires are started by lightning strikes. Unfortunately some are started by careless or stupid people and are preventable. It's astounding every year to hear of yet another fire started by humans--after all the news coverage of the fires and the damage to natural areas, wildlife, cost for firefighting, etc. I can't believe that anyone would not be more careful.

When I was a kid we used to have Smokey the Bear and his slogan, "Only you can prevent forest fires." Maybe Smokey needs to be brought back regularly instead of just now and then when there is a fire. Teaching prevention is easier than fighting fires.

He,He,He,He......

I've added Smokey the Bear and his slogan, "Only you can prevent forest fires." with my new post.

He,He,He,He......

Do not Threaten or Touch the Big Old Bear, or you are going to become VERY VERY UNLUCKY in THE FUTURE.

NEVER CALL for the WRATH OF GOD. It is always as invisible shield, you don't see it, and unwise to call for. Do not touch the Bear!

Holy of Holiest words of Mouth Mounsieur La Supercigale!!! I swear.

I'll never be unlucky because the bears have disappeared from my region very long ago, regrettably, and fire is for nothing there.

have a good day Christie
