The beginning of my Vue product line

Today I posted my first Vue product, the Vue Clay Render ToolKit.

Vue is a very powerful application but sometimes it is cumbersome to use when you want to create simple renders, like, in our case, clay renders. It might look strange, because nearly every 3D application has some dedicated answer to the problem (e.g., Blender has a plugin which simplifies the job of creating materials for clay render) but, since Vue has historically been mainly used in outdoor renders it lacks the tools and even tutorials about doing this kind of renders.

Now, you just have to buy this product, use the atmosphere and the materials included and follow the instructions provided.

An example of what you can do with it (apart from the promo images I provided) is shown in one of my deviantART postings.

As I implied in the first sentence, this is the beginning of a Vue-oriented product line. I plan to add terrains, materials, atmospheres and probably complete scenes too. I also plan to create HDR equirectangular panoramas to use as background/lighting for other programs (currently I am testing them inside the new Blender Cycles renderer).

My ultimate target, creating mesh models, will have to wait until the end of my retraining effort from the modeling applications I used up to the recent past (Wings3D and Hexagon) to Blender. It is certainly a painful process but I am sure that it will pay off (a textbook example of no-pain-no-gain ;-) ).

The adventure begins

The first post cannot be anything but the obligatory presentation, can it?

I have been interested in computer graphics since a long time (just picture me buying, in 1988, using some hard earned cash, a 387 coprocessor to boost Fractint performance). Some of my university courses were about signal and image processing and I did long periods of work and consulting about computer vision and image processing. To make a long story short, I am really interested into anything CG related, and not only as a user but also as a programmer (which is my main job since 1987, currently consulting in Java web development).

Recently some posts on several forums made me consider that it was high time I put all the knowledge I accumulated in these years to good use and start providing not only freebies but actual products.

So, what am I going to sell? At first, textures, both derived from pictures of real world items and procedurally generated; later I plan to add terrains and meshes.

In the next days I will start by uploading a set of 6 grass+leaves textures made out of photographs I shot recently, available both individually and as a pack, plus a free demo version of the pack, containing the textures scaled down in size and quality.
