Redneck 3D Artist

Ever do something crazy, and fell good about it.

Short story. I am offering extreme discounts on all my nascar 3d models with an attached 3.0 Creative Commons License. So to all of you needing a nascar model for free/personal use enjoy!

Long story. A few weeks ago a client asked me to prepare a scene for there presentation. They purchased a different nascar model from the web. It didn't work well for there presentation and needed it to be updated. I have worked on these models twice, and granted it looks nice in the render and I the artist explains to the buyer what you get with the model. So no fault on the artist. But without the PSD source it's a pain to update the texture. Also it has many rules issue violations on the body and wheels. But if you're making a 3d video that shows off the rules in an 101 how stuff works render. You need the model to be spot on. I take lots of pride in my work. I try to base it off the rule provided at the time. So it can the most accurate representation of the vehicle as I can get it. Fast forward to this week. I "HAD" review privileged on this other site, so I reviewed the models I have to fix accordingly. I was sent a warning message and had my reviewing ability removed. In my responce I tried to explain how I was being honest about the reviews, and this was in my reply: "less than 1% of customers think ratings are useful for helping them decide to purchase". Well, then who cares!

I guess the term is call fire sale. Since I priced all of my nascar assets at $15usd or free. But I am ok with this. I come from a modder's background. I love the little guy, because that is who I am. I look forward to seeing my models in all sorts of game mods!

Full circle, my prices changes are reflected both here and at the other site. So if they want to change it back, fine. Customers will just come over here to get them.

Open replies to Phr0stByte

Here you can post your un-moderated replies to Phr0stByte since he is not approving comments that do not agree with him. He did not approve my comment, but has decided to slander me in my own blog.

He posted this subject in an open blog, I commented my opinion. He did not approve my comment. And he decided to come over to my blog and post this in a non related topic. Which I think only proves my comment. I saved my comment because I was figured he would not approve it. But I do not approve of his action in my own blog.

Phr0stByte Comments:
Just thought I would drop in and be insulting to you, as you tried to on my blog. Its ok to voice your opinion, but being insulting and a general @ss is not OK. Have a nice day! You have got real nerve calling someone else immature! LOL!

My reply to his blog:
Obviously you were not mature enough to sign this contract. Perhaps if you were under 18 when you signed it you might not have had the authority to sign it. You would need your mom or dad to do so. This video pretty well sums up your misguided prescription: http://youtu.be/eMlrWhgBUOA

Build what you love

I think that this title is very true. I have always been a nascar fan, I grew up loving the sport and auto racing. Today, my love for the sport isn't very popular in an office setting, where you work with a majority of people who can't change the oil their own car. But, this is an exciting year. Lots of rules changes to the nose and spoiler. In fact, they just finalized the new rules for 2012 last week. Also, since I live in NC. I was able to go to some of the open house and open press events when teams show off their 2012 car. It gives me a change to take photos of the cars so I can proper measurements of the new body layouts for 2012.

I have been very busy with projects over the winter, and that has slowed my release of my 2012 nascar model set. But the rest are coming soon. I just wrapped up the Camry, and the Fusion is soon to follow.
  • I also created an interactive 3D Demo of the one of the cars this year. Check it out!

Stats & Tips - From a Redneck 3D Artist

Ha I knew putting "Redneck 3D Artist" in the title would get your attention! But sadly its true.

Lots of people ask about stats, but not many people like to share. Well I am feeling generous today and I thought I would share a small snapshot of my last 2 months. Someone might point out that I list different prices on different websites, while that is true I only adjust the price based on royalty rate. Example, on some of my larger models I would like to pull in around 150-200 on each asset. So I adjust the price of my assets accordingly.

I think some of the best advice I could offer people is "pick a theme". If your going to make models, pick a subject mater you love and start creating. If you love Airplanes - than do airplanes! You will have a deep passion to do really well on them. I guess the other bit of advice I could offer is don't build anything that will only take you a few hours to make. You're not doing anyone any much a service by uploading these kind of assets. Buyers come here to save time and money, and if its simple, they might just quick turn it around them self. I have never had good luck with simple meshes, an example I can offer is my CB radio asset (a beveled box with an antenna). I created it very quickly and I think it has only sold twice in 7 years. Everytime I see a new Iphone/pad model uploaded (another beveled box) I am reminded of my CB radio model experience.

And everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend!!!

Buyers wasting money on other sites!?

I like to do customer intelligence experiments, and I thought I would share some results. Right now, there has been a few failings over on the squid. I offer a free stock car model here on T3DS as a gift to the community. But for some reason people over on the other site will still buy this model... Wow. Someone needs to introduce these people to Google!
