Mid-season finales?

I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but there are a couple of shows I really enjoy. One of those is Destination Truth...which happens to be on Wednesday nights after Ghost Hunters  (another favorite) on SyFy Channel.

The idea of DT is that the host of the show and his team investigate various oddities and monster type sightings around the globe....think vampires, yeti, chupacabra, werewolves, paranormal stuff, and so on. It's unlikely the show will ever find any real "monsters" but that's not the point, it's serious yet hilarious (mainly due to the host).

I was watching it tonight (mediocre episode) and noticed that their commercial for the next episode was listed as a mid-season finale. On their site it's called a season finale but on the commercial it was very clearly a mid-season finale. I remember Ghost Hunters doing this several months back as well.

I've already noticed that TV "seasons" seem to get shorter every couple of years and my completely ignorant guess to that is so that the networks save money. Order 1 less episode and you save hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions (depending on the show), right? Well, whatever the reason the new trend seems to be to toss in these breaks in the middle of the season.

What's up with that? I mean, DT just started it's 3rd season on September 9 and already it needs a break after only 9 episodes? You'd think the networks were run by bankers or high school teachers with all of the breaks they have. Well, they could at least tell us when this break will end and the new episodes will resume but instead SyFy.com chose to let the moronic public post rude and nasty comments on their site instead. Bravo SyFy, you really run a tight ship! Maybe next time it's best you don't blow your cash on dumb name changes from SciFi to SyFy.

Hahaha - we are two peas in a pod. These are the only two shows on TV I watch. No 3d modeling for me on Wednesday nights!

LOL, yeah, what's up with that stupid name change? I like the rendering of the logo though ;)

I was disappointed, too, to hear that the next episode will be a mid-season finale. I've been watching the show since last year (I didn't see the first season because from the previews first I thought it was just another stupid reality show). I happened to see it once and realized how funny it was and I've been watching it ever since. I love Josh; I basically watch the show for his wisecracks. Some of the places they go to are very interesting, too. It was great e.g. that they could investigate Tutankhamun's tomb at night. I wonder what that moving thing was on the thermal imager in the locked-up tomb... The Chernobyl episode was also interesting.

I wonder when the show will be back...

What drives me nuts is when shows like this go somewhere for 1 night, get all sorts of crazy activity and then they pack up and go home the next day. I mean, come on, stay another night and get more footage! The Chernobyl one was crazy, too bad they did have more teams so they could stay in there longer.

I also liked the recent episode where it was a tiny island full of hundreds of dolls....creepy to say the least, but when Josh looks at the doll and suddenly the eyes open on it...that was awesome.

Tessellated...exactly...Weds nights is some seriously good TV viewing. I don't think I watch any live TV since we have the DVR, but that's one I usually can't wait to watch and get sucked into it live.

Now, I need to get a guest investigator spot on that show or Ghost Hunters. Somebody needs to hook me up :)

Tessellated @ 10/30/2009 9:18 AM
Hell, yeah! That would be awesome to be a guest investigator on GH - I wonder if the new one coming will be any good - "Ghost Hunters Academy". I wish they would come out to Bull Run. It is a Virginia Civil War battle site close to my house - we got mega ghosts there!

As for the comments at the DT site on the SyFy page, I do agree with at least one of them: Jaell is HOT!

Sue88 @ 10/30/2009 10:22 AM
Yeah, maybe you could sign up for Ghost Hunters Academy. ;) I think I'd prefer to watch the happenings from the comfort and safety of home, LOL. It's easy to say "nah, that noise they heard is just an old house settling down, temperature changes, and stuff like that". But to actually be there and hear noises in the dark - I think I would have a heart attack.

Speaking of Ghost Hunters, have you guys noticed that the crew have more and more tattoos? I especially noticed that on Dave Tango's and Jason's arms...

I totally agree that doing an intestigation for 1 night doesn't make much sense! The night is over, they pack up and head back. BTW, I wonder if they really go back and forth like that for every episode, or do they take one trip to the same general area, do several investigations, then come back and wrap things up and divide the material up into separate episodes? That would make more sense.

The dolls on that island were creepy!

The3dStudio.com @ 10/30/2009 10:32 AM
I have mixed feelings on the Academy...I'll check it out for sure, but spin offs never seem to go well. For example, I don't like Ghost Hunters International.

I think when the place is further away they get a few episodes out...recently two were in Canada I think (for example).

I do agree with you, it can't be easy exploring some of those places (sanatorium!) in the dark like that. I can also say for sure that if I was on that island and the doll opened it's eyes like that I would promptly poop myself and run away screaming like child.

Sue88 @ 10/30/2009 10:54 AM
LOL, I think most of us would have a similar reaction :D

I agree; GHI was a disappointment.
